Pastor John Watkins  - Children’s Pastor
As a young child I accepted Christ as my personal Lord and Savior however, it was not until I was 13 that I received my call to the ministry.  In 1995, I began attending Legacy Community Church where I married my wife Kim in 1996.  At the beginning of our marriage I became the Children’s Pastor. This honor first came to me by a child’s request for me to be his new Children’s Pastor.  To this day I remember that child and how I knew that this was my place in God’s Kingdom. That child helped me start a new phase in my life which would be the beginning of my ministry at Legacy Community Church.  As a result I was licensed in the Church of God in 2004 and was ordained in 2006.

During this journey my wife and I have had two precious girls.  One is 6 years old and the other is 2 years old.  It is great to see their excitement for the Lord. Having my own children has made me even more aware of how important it is to teach the love of God to children at an early age.

Here at Legacy, my mission is to impress upon the children to love the Lord with all their heart and with all their soul and with all their strength as directed in Deuteronomy 6:5-7.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children.”      Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (NIV)

How our Children’s Ministry achieves this is by seeing the world through a child’s eyes so, that we can create a fun way to learn about God.  We want this to remain with them as they continue to grow and mature in God’s love. Not only is this done through creative biblical teaching but also through music, prayer, art, drama, puppets etc.  We want to make this the most memorable day in a child’s week!
